Seasonal Price Patterns in Uganda Coffee
January - March
Main Harvest Season
Peak robusta harvest in central and eastern Uganda (Masaka, Mukono, Bugisu). Farmgate volumes are highest, often pushing prices to annual lows. Buyers negotiate aggressively as supply floods the market. Good time to secure forward contracts for the year ahead.
April - June
Fly Crop & Quality Focus
The smaller fly crop harvest begins, especially for arabica in the Mount Elgon region. Quality is typically higher than the main crop. Arabica premiums widen as specialty buyers compete for Bugisu AA lots. Robusta prices stabilize as main crop supply is absorbed.
July - September
Global Supply Window
Brazil's harvest reaches peak volume, setting the global tone for arabica. Vietnam's robusta crop outlook for the upcoming season drives sentiment. Uganda's position as a year-round supplier keeps premiums intact. Currency moves in UGX vs USD can swing local prices 3-5%.
October - December
Demand Push & Year-End
European roasters place large Q4 orders ahead of winter demand. Export volumes surge in November-December. Price volatility peaks as traders square positions. Historically the strongest quarter for Uganda FOB prices. EUDR compliance documentation becomes critical for December shipments.
